Who Are We?

We are the Cheshire Neighbourhood Watch Association (CNWA). We are a not for profit organisation set up in September 2016, the members of which are volunteer Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators. Neighbourhood Watch (NW), previously known as Home Watch which started when the first UK scheme was formed in Mollington in Cheshire in 1982 and grew rapidly across the country. We work in partnership with Cheshire Police, the Police and Crime Commissioner and the national Neighbourhood Watch Network to help build communities across Cheshire and encourage crime prevention activities to make everyone safer.

The population of around 1 million people in Cheshire currently has approximately 1,500 NW Schemes (NWS), and 30,000 NW members. Each NWS is led by a community-based volunteer Coordinator who liaises with their neighbours who may become scheme members. NWSs are very local in nature and differ greatly depending upon the needs of the members; see some of the case studies on this website for examples. NW fosters neighbourliness and community spirit across Cheshire, creating stronger more resilient communities.

It is expected that if you live in an area covered by a NW scheme, you are less likely to be burgled or a victim of personal crime, due to the focus on crime prevention amongst scheme members and close connections with local policing teams. Despite this benefit, only about 3% of residents in the county live within an active NW scheme area, and our mission is to extend this benefit to all communities, ultimately enabling a significant reduction in crime and reduction in the fear of crime across Cheshire.

Any resident of Cheshire may search for a NW scheme in their locality using the postcode search tool CLICK HERE and can register to start a NW scheme if none exists.
