Local projects

During the Covid-19 pandemic Neighbourhood Watch found new purpose as Coordinators naturally reached out to their neighbours and connected with other volunteers to support those who were self-isolating. People across the country who are not involved with Neighbourhood Watch also became active in their communities at a time of need, reacting to the crisis to organise and provide practical help and support. These initiatives have been hugely well received by those supported, and the response is very heartening at times when it is easy to assume that people are too busy with their own lives to consider the needs of others.

For communities seeking to preserve and develop newfound community spirit and support activities beyond the pandemic, Neighbourhood Watch offers an existing framework to do just this. Coordinators naturally know their neighbours and those needing support based on their role in crime prevention, and are hyper-local, often operating for one street or one housing development at a time. The continuing struggle with the impact of the pandemic on communities and the aftermath of it is an ideal time to recruit new Neighbourhood Watch coordinators, as this creates a sustainable network of community minded individuals offering support at times of need.

Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators respond to the needs of their communities. As such they may lead or participate in a range of community projects such as:

  • Community speedwatch
  • Litter picking
  • Property marking
  • Practical help for neighbours
  • Communal green spaces
  • Youth clubs and activity centres

Launch of our Doorstep Crime Awareness Campaign

We had a fantastic morning yesterday (28th July 2025) kicking off our Doorstep Crime Awareness Campaign in Congleton, despite a bit of rain!

The local beat team and Crime Prevention officer, Cheshire East Council's Trading Standards officer, Plus Dane Housing, staff from the local MP's office, and of course CNWA, spoke with so many residents about staying safe from cold callers and doorstep scams by:

  • Sharing practical safety tips
  • Answering lots of questions
  • Handing out leaflets, window stickers, and resources to help people feel more confident at the door

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to stop and chat – your interest and support really do make a difference!

We are also asking you for your thoughts on Doorstep Crime by answering a few questions by clicking on the following link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YJTH9XD

If you missed us, or want to support a neighbour or relative, visit our Crime Prevention page on here, read the information and download your own No Cold Callers sign. https://cheshirenw.org/crime-prevention

This is just the beginning, we’ll be visiting more communities across Cheshire soon, so keep an eye out!
